Belarus wins nine medals at 2018 Youth Olympic Games

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarusian athletes won nine medals at the 3rd Youth Olympic Games that completed in Buenos Aires, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian judoka Artyom Kolosov claimed two gold medals in the 55kg weight category and as part of the international team.

Swimmer Anastasia Shkurdai clinched the 50m butterfly silver and the 100m butterfly bronze. Belarusian rower Ivan Brynza took silver. Yelizaveta Dorts won silver in the women’s shot put.

Bronze medals also went to Kristina Kontsevenko (pole jump), Natalya Varakina (women’s wrestling), Viktoria Akhotnikova and Ilya Fomenkov (acrobatics).

Belarus fielded 37 athletes in 16 sports in Buenos Aires. Belarus also won nine (five gold and four silver) medals at the 2nd Youth Olympic games in Nanjing, China in 2014.

In the Argentinean capital almost 4,000 sportsmen from 206 countries competed in 32 sports during 12 competition days. Russia topped the unofficial team medal standings with 59 (29, 18, 12) medals.

The next Youth Olympic Games will take place in Dakar, Senegal in May-June 2022.
