Belarus, Thailand to create comprehensive legal framework of cooperation

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – It is essential to create a comprehensive legal framework of cooperation with Thailand, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Vice Premier and Defense Minister of Thailand Prawit Wongsuwan on 26 February, BelTA has learned.

The President of Belarus noted with regret that Belarus and Thailand do not have a comprehensive legal framework of bilateral cooperation yet. However, he said that it exists at a certain level. “I would say that it exists at the level of trust,” Alexander Lukashenko remarked. For example, Belarus has never had problems with partners in Thailand, and Thailand has never had claims to Belarus. “This is good, but we must create the legal framework,” the head of state stressed. He gave an instruction to set up a joint intergovernmental commission for the elaboration of aspects issues of cooperation with Thailand. Alexander Lukashenko expressed confidence that the visit of Prawit Wongsuwan will launch the development of the legal framework and encouraged the Thailand official to put forward proposals regarding new cooperation avenues.

We are ready to discuss all promising areas of interaction between Thailand and Belarus,” the President said. “We can establish robust cooperation and reach a high level of bilateral trade,” he added.

Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that the Belarusian side will “do its best to meet the demands of Thailand in all fields.” These include a wide range of issues, from the training of military and civil personnel to the mutual supplies of goods.
