MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – As of 1 October 2015 Belarus’ population stood at $9,494,200 people, 13,335 people up from the beginning of the year, BelTA learned from representatives of the National Statistics Committee of Belarus.
According to the source, migration into the country remains the key factor behind the rising population numbers in Belarus. In January-September 2015 Belarus welcomed 15,096 migrants, 80% up from the same period of last year (6,622 people up).
In January-September 2015 natural population decline amounted to 1,761 people, 216 people up from the same period of last year.
In January-September 2015 the number of people born in Belarus decreased by 262 (0.3%) in comparison with the same period of last year. The number of people, who died, dropped by 46 (0.1%).
Infant mortality rate dropped from 3.5 cases per 1,000 live births in January-September 2014 to 3.2 cases in January-September 2015. Conditions emerging in the perinatal period and inborn abnormalities are the primary causes of death (69.6%) among children under one year of age.
In January-September 2015 the number of marriages dropped by 5.2%, with the number of divorces down by 5.8%.
