MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) – A possibility to expand bilateral cooperation was discussed at a meeting between Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich and Polish President Andrzej Duda on 13 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of the Belarusian parliament.

The Polish president welcomed the increasing level of Belarus-Poland contacts and their efficiency.

Mikhail Myasnikovich, in turn, suggested charting a cooperation roadmap and intensifying political, economic and humanitarian cooperation.

The parties spoke in favor of regular political contacts at the highest and high levels.

They also discussed ways to step up investment cooperation. They emphasized the importance of the social security document signed during the visit of Belarus’ parliamentary delegation to Poland. This document regulates payment of retirement and disability pensions and unemployment benefits and matters related to the pensionable service period. The document will help enhance social security of citizens of the partner states.

The Polish president praised Belarus’ efforts to promote peace and security in Europe and spoke highly of Belarus’ initiatives in general.

Mikhail Myasnikovich added that Belarus is concerned by attempts to distort some historical facts related to Belarusians of Podlasie. The president noted that historical matters should be treated carefully. Each fact should be approached individually.

The parties noted that in 2019 Belarus and Poland mark a number of important dates that have to do with their common history, like the 450th anniversary of the Union of Lublin, 200 years since the birth of composer Stanislaw Moniuszko and other events.
