Belarus interested in gold mining, machine building projects with Sudan

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) - Friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Belarus and Sudan are increasingly vibrant, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the talks with Sudan President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir on 10 December, BelTA informs.

During the talks with the Sudanese president Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Belarus views Khartoum as a reliable and trustworthy partner.

“We respect your state very much,” the president said. “There are absolutely no disagreements in politics and closed topics for discussion. Friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Belarus and Sudan are increasingly vibrant.” The narrow-format conversation has proved that, he added.

The head of state remarked that the sides have already reached certain results in the development of cooperation. For example, the presidents’ instructions in gold mining are successfully fulfilled. “In order to improve mutual payments in trade we agreed that Belarusian companies will mine gold on your territory because your soil is rich in gold. I would like to thank you for making a decision to give us the second gold deposit,” Alexander Lukashenko said.

In his words, the Belarusian side is interested in the delivery of products to Sudan. However, it is not the main issue. The sides agreed to set up joint assembly plants and full-cycle agricultural complexes. Besides, the Belarusian side can teach Sudanese specialists to operate the equipment which will be made in this country. “In the near future we will set up a machine building center for the assembly of tractors, cars and construction equipment. We will also open dairy complexes and greenhouses for growing vegetables and sprouts in Sudan,” the president said.

Belarusian healthcare organizations are ready to provide high-tech medical aid in all fields from neurosurgery to transplantation to Sudanese people. “We have good specialists who can teach your specialists to perform such technology-intensive surgeries,” the head of state said.

According to Alexander Lukashenko, there are good prospects for cooperation in the humanitarian field: in education, science, sport and culture. “It is very important to join efforts to implement humanitarian projects,” he said.

During the talks Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir decided to eliminate production duties at a joint enterprise in Khartoum to make its products more competitive. “We will be able to sell these products not only in Sudan, as we have just agreed, in South Sudan, but also in whole Africa,” the president of Belarus said.

The head of state also expressed confidence that Belarus and Sudan will soon conclude a cooperation agreement in the banking sector to streamline the mechanisms of mutual payments.

“We need to move forward and continue implementing the agreements which were reached in Khartoum. We are prepared for an open dialogue, the discussion of topical cooperation issues in the best interests of our countries,” Alexander Lukashenko concluded.
