MINSK, 13 September (BelTA) – Belarus’ Anastasia Prokopenko won gold at the 2018 UIPM World Championships in Mexico, BelTA informs.
The Belarusian scored a total of 1,335 points to claim the champion title. Silver went to Annika Schleu of Germany (1,332 points). Third was Marie Oteiza of France (1,329 points). Belarus’ Irina Prosentsova finished 24th with 1,258 points.
This is the second gold medal for Anastasia Prokopenko at the 2018 UIPM World Championships in Mexico. Earlier, she and Irina Prosentsova were first in the relay event.
The Belarusian took bronze at the 2017 UIPM World Championships in Cairo and won gold at the UIPM Senior Modern Pentathlon European Championships in Minsk.
According to experts, after her success in Mexico Anastasia Prokopenko is now a serious contender for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic podium. Anastasia Prokopenko (Samusevich) took part in three Olympic Games. She was fourth in 2008, sixth in 2012 and 22nd in 2016.
