Belarus, Brazil presidents agree to set up joint intergovernmental commission

UFA, 9 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Brazil will set up a joint intergovernmental commission to study the current state of bilateral relations and the prospects of advancing all-round cooperation. The agreement was reached at the meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Brazil President Dilma Rousseff in Ufa on 9 July, BelTA has learned.

Belarus, Brazil presidents agree to set up joint intergovernmental commissionThe heads of state also agreed to determine 4-5 major areas of focus and projects which will be launched and will serve as examples for the development of relations.

Despite the trade turnover between the two countries is almost $1 billion, the presidents are convinced that the potential has not been depleted yet, and the sides still have to do a lot. Belarus and Brazil have good prospects for the expansion of cooperation in aviation and agriculture. Belarus buys Brazilian Embraer aircraft, has highly-qualified personnel and resources for the establishment of a regional center of technical maintenance of these aircraft. The President of Brazil supported the proposal of the Belarusian leader. The sides also agreed to set up an industrial cluster of joint ventures producing agricultural equipment, dump trucks and tractors in Brazil.

Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told reporters that the meeting of the presidents was productive and expressed confidence that the Belarusian-Brazilian relations will be advanced to a brand-new level in the near future.
