MINSK, 7 May (BelTA) – The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in close cooperation with the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, Education Ministry, Labor and Social Security Ministry, public associations, and volunteers and with financial assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) are actively working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Belarus, BelTA learned from UNICEF.

For example, in line with a joint project, 25 boxes of antiseptics were delivered to the National Scientific and Practical Center of Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology on 24 April. From 30 April to 2 May, 1,500 liters of antiseptics, 1,160 liters of antibacterial soap, and 180 elbow dispensers were supplied to residential care facilities for children with disabilities and special needs in Belarus’ Vesnovo, Cherven, Gorodishche, Vasilishki, Minsk, Bogushevsk, Gomel, Rechitsa, and Ivenets.

In association with the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education,  eight education videos have been for healthcare workers who treat coronavirus patients. The videos tell about the effective and safe use of personal protective equipment and ways to improve the quality of treatment of patients that require assisted ventilation. Two more videos have been shot for the general population teaching the correct way to wash hands and wear face masks as preventive measures.

Since 30 April, specialists of the psychotherapy and medical psychology department of the academy launched a series of webinars about organizing and providing emergency psychological services to specialists of the healthcare, labor, and social security systems who work with COVID-19 patients. Individual consultations for medical staff and specialists of residential care facilities have been available since 4 May.
