Project name: Barrier-Free Safety Lessons

Project period: 12 months

Applicant: Minsk City Department of the Emergencies Ministry of the Republic of Belarus

Project goal: To create conditions for teaching the life safety skills among vulnerable groups of the population, namely preschool-age children, orphans and children with disabilities, as part of the effort to prevent loss of life and traumatism in the city of Minsk

Project objectives:

1. Setting up a mobile safety center
2. Developing a training program on health and life safety fundamental skills for vulnerable groups of the population residing in Minsk, promoting the best teaching practices.

The current program focuses on the following areas: fire safety, algorithms of actions in case of emergencies, rules for using primary fire extinguishing equipment, first aid, safety rules on the water and on the road, in the forest, etc.;

3. Organizing systemic preventive actions to improve life safety skills among vulnerable groups of the population.

Target groups:

- preschool children
- orphans
- disabled children.

Brief description:

Life becomes not only more diverse and interesting, but often more difficult and dangerous. It no longer requires routine and habitual actions but completely new, dynamic, quickly adaptable skills to resolve large and small problems arising in everyday life.

For the most effective implementation of actions in order to prevent the loss of life and traumatism in the city of Minsk, ti is important to apply advanced means of raising awareness and teaching practical skills. This is especially relevant for vulnerable groups of the population, who, based on their capabilities, have difficulties visiting the Educational Safety Centers of the Emergencies Ministry.

There are 422 preschool institutions, 10 boarding schools, one boarding school for disabled children and 15 children's hospitals in Minsk.

Based on this, a mobile safety center will allow specialists of Minsk City Department of the Emergencies Ministry to carry out systematic preventive actions to effectively improve life safety skills among vulnerable groups of the population, and  to work out safe behavior skills within the framework of the national preventive actions of the Emergencies Ministry in Minsk

Brief description of the project activities:

To create the conditions for teaching life safety skills among the vulnerable groups of the population there is a need to:

1. Set up a mobile safety center fitted our with the necessary equipment (1 minivan, 2 pneumatic lighting towers, 1 touch interactive tablet, 1 projector with a mobile screen, 1 laptop, 2 music speakers, 1 mixing console, 4 radio microphones, 4 life size puppets, 6 folding tables, 10 folding chairs, 2 light installations on a mast, 1 gas generator, 4 power filters).
2. Adapt training programs for the target group using the best teaching practices in life safety
3. Organize systemic preventive actions to improve the level of life safety skills among vulnerable groups of Minsk city population

After-project activities:

Experience gained in applying a new approach to training vulnerable groups of the population will enable to plan subsequent systemic preventive actions to improve the life safety skills, including within the framework of national campaigns and expand a range of target groups
