MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) – Poland has sent the second batch of humanitarian aid to Belarus, BelTA learned from the Polish diplomatic mission in Minsk.

“A total of 47 trucks are carrying 300 tonnes of humanitarian aid to tackle COVID-19. On Friday, 5 June, the cargo will arrive in Grodno Oblast and Minsk,” the embassy said.

Trucks are carrying, in particular, face masks, medicines, coronavirus test kits, personal protective equipment, and also ventilators. “This is the second batch of humanitarian aid for Belarus. We share the border with Belarusians, and not only this. He stressed that this is the largest batch of humanitarian aid in the history of modern Poland.

The official handover ceremony in Warsaw was attended by  Belarusian Ambassador to Poland Vladimir Chushev.

The humanitarian aid is transported by trucks of the State Fire Service, the State Police and the Border Service. It is planned that the trucks will cross the border at the Kuznica Bialostocka–Bruzgi checkpoint on 5 June at about 6.30 and arrive in Minsk on the same day. Representatives of the Healthcare Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish Embassy in Belarus will welcome the cargo in the Belarusian capital city.

The first batch of humanitarian aid arrived in Belarus on 24 April. Then it included disinfectants (50,000 liters), antiseptics (30,000 liters) and surgical masks (100,000  necessary to fight the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic.

“By supporting the Republic of Belarus in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Poland shows good-neighborly solidarity and thus fulfills its obligations under the Treaty of Neighborhood and Friendly Cooperation signed in 1992,” the embassy noted.
