German partners to donate ultrasound equipment to Brest children's clinic

WITTENBERG, 25 November (BelTA) - German partners intend to donate ultrasound equipment to the Brest children's out-patient clinic for the city’s millennium anniversary next year, BelTA has learned.

On behalf of the Brest mayor, the formal invitations to attend the anniversary events were handed over to Christoph Hepperle, a representative of the the twin cities of the German union of Schussental lands (it includes the cities of Ravensburg and Weingarten, and the communities of Berg, Baienfurt, and Baindt). The invitations were handed over by Brest First Vice Mayor Vadim Kravchuk during the tenth meeting of the twin cities of Belarus and Germany, which took place in Wittenberg with the participation of more than 120 people. The German twin cities promised to attend the festive events and bring gifts, including ultrasound equipment.

During the event, Vadim Kravchuk spoke about close and effective relations that Brest has nurtured with the German partners and sister-cities of Ravensburg, Weingarten, communities of Berg, Baienfurt, and Baindt. By the way, 2019 will mark the 30th anniversary of the twinning of the cities. They were among the first to sign the relevant agreements in 1989. The 11th meeting of the twin cities of Belarus and Germany will be held Brest in 2020.

“Thanks to the cooperation with the German sister cities, Brest and the German union of Schussental lands have implemented many important economic, cultural and educational projects. We also pay great attention to the diversification of supplies of Belarusian goods. A special emphasis is placed on the exchange of experience in various fields. German counterparts are interested in many aspects of the organization of Brest city economy,” the Brest first vice mayor said.

According to him, the interest in further intensification of bilateral contacts is mutual. “This was confirmed by the meeting in Wittenberg, where parties discussed in detail both the strategic areas of cooperation and specific projects. Among the novelties was the inclusion of young people in the twin-town movement. This time the Belarusian delegation included many young people who took an active part in the 10th meeting of twin cities and introduced a lot of creative ideas,” Vadim Kravchuk said.

The meeting in Wittenberg was attended by representatives of 33 cities of Belarus and Germany. The Belarusian delegation was headed by Chairman of the Belarusian public organization Twinned Cities Boris Batura. The event was organized by the West-Eastern Meetings Foundation, the Federal West-East German Societies Union with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The event was held in participation with representatives of the Belarusian embassy in Germany.
