Belarus’ humanitarian aid to reach Syria in February

Belarus’ humanitarian aid to reach Syria in February

MINSK, 28 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian humanitarian aid is to be delivered to Syria in late February, head of the emergency response department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry Sergei Novik told reporters on 28 December, BelTA has learned.

At first, the humanitarian aid is to be transported to Klaipeda and from there it will be delivered to Syria by sea. “The approximate delivery time is the end of February. By this time, a delegation of the Emergencies Ministry will be formed. This delegation will go to Syria to do the paperwork and help distribute the humanitarian aid among people in need,” Sergei Novik said.

Six containers with the total weight of over 50 tonnes will be sent to Syria. The choice of items that made part of the humanitarian aid is based on the needs of the Syrian side. The aid includes, among other things, compressor plants, diesel generators, instruments for debris handling, as well as school supplies, school desks, children’s clothing and footwear.

It is the fourth time Belarus will deliver humanitarian aid to Syria at the initiative of the Belarusian head of state. All in all, Belarus has sent humanitarian aid to people in need more than 60 times since 1999.

A reminder, the humanitarian aid includes two dump trucks and a MAZ bus, clothing, footwear, furniture, artificial heart valves, whole milk powder. The humanitarian aid is estimated at nearly Br1 million.

The Emergencies Ministry, the Industry Ministry and the Transport and Communications Ministry were instructed to arrange the delivery of the humanitarian aid to the Port of Latakia in Syria.
