MINSK, 8 May (BelTA) – The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus has published the timetable for preparing and carrying out the forthcoming election of the president of Belarus. The document is available on the CEC website, BelTA has learned.

The timetable specifies when election commissions are supposed to be established. Territorial ones are to be established on 20 May at the latest while polling station commissions are to be established through 24 June. Polling stations are to be established by the same deadline.

Contenders for the presidential post are supposed to file papers with the Central Election Commission on 15 May at the latest in order to register an initiative group. Members of the group will be able to collect signatures in support of nominating their candidate from 21 May through 19 June.

Candidates will be nominated from 20 June through 4 July. They will be registered from 5 July through 14 July. Pre-election campaigning will begin after that. The main events of pre-election campaigning are also stipulated by the timetable.

Early voting is scheduled for 4-8 August.

The Central Election Commission is supposed to sum up results of the election on 19 August at the latest. If the second round of the election is necessary, it will take place within two weeks of the first one, that is on 23 August.

BelTA reported earlier that the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus scheduled the presidential election for 9 August. The main election campaign will begin on 9 May, the Day of the Great Victory.
