CEC official reveals how many Belarusians living abroad voted in presidential election

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – In the latest episode of BelTA’s project “The Nation Speaks” Head of the Department for Legal, Analytical and Methodological Work at the Central Election Commission (CEC) Yelena Grigorovich said how many Belarusian citizens living abroad voted in the presidential election in Belarus.

“A total of 114 citizens of the Republic of Belarus permanently residing abroad and registered with the consulate took part in the voting during the early voting period and on the main election day. The majority of them were residents of Russia - 37 people. There were also residents of Poland, Germany and Lithuania, as well as residents of the USA and Ukraine,” Yelena Grigorovich noted.

According to her, several people came to Belarus from Russia purposefully to cast their ballot in Belarus’ election. “For example, a couple from Russia aged 60+ came specifically to take part in the voting, and at the same time to see their relatives and children. There were people who were here during the voting period, so they decided to take advantage of the opportunity,” she clarified.

“As for the regional breakdown, Minsk comes first with 43 voters casting their ballot there; 31 people voted in Grodno, 16 in Brest,” Yelena Grigorovich added.
