MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – It is important for Belarus to create its own vaccine against COVID-19, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said taking stock of the results of the 6th Belarusian People's Congress in Minsk on 12 February, BelTA has learned.

“As far as the pandemic is concerned, we are coping with this problem not worse than other countries. However, we should no way lower our guard, because we do not know what will happen next. Nobody in the world knows. However, we began to look at this problem in a more comprehensive way. I mean vaccinations, purchase of vaccines in Russia and other countries, vaccine production using their technologies. The pinnacle of our effort will be the creation of our own vaccine,” the Belarusian leader said.

He noted that Cubans announced a day before that they had developed a good vaccine against coronavirus. “Cuba has always been known for a high level of medicine. So have we. Therefore, I want to remind the National Academy of Sciences and the Healthcare Ministry that we are waiting for progress in developing our own vaccine,” the head of state added.
