Belarus determined to stay in Olympic top 25

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus should maintain its ranking among the top 25 countries in the world Olympic arena. This ambitious goal is envisaged in Belarus’ draft social and development program for 2016-2020, which is to be discussed at the 5th Belarusian People’s Congress, BelTA has learned.

The main goal is to maintain Belarus’ rating among Olympic nations, not lower than the 25th spot. As for the development of physical education and sport, there are plans to increase the share of people taking up sport to at least 25% of the total population in 2020.

The state policy will be aimed at encouraging people to do regular exercise, take up sport, and preserve Belarus’ stable position among the best sports countries.

Efforts will be continued to strengthen the physical infrastructure of the Belarusian national teams, develop specialty training centers. A series of measures will be implemented to secure the operation of health-improvement groups for people with disabilities, further develop the Paralympic movement.
