Wreath on behalf of Belarus Embassy laid at Tomb of Unknown Soldier in Moscow

MOSCOW, 1 July (BelTA) - A wreath on behalf of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia was laid at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow on 1 July. The ceremony was dedicated to the 71st anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders and to the Independence Day of Belarus, BelTA learned from the press service of the diplomatic mission.

The event was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko, Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobiev, First Deputy Head of the United Russia faction in the State Duma Frants Klintsevich, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, members of the Board (the Ministers) of the Eurasian Economic Commission Vladimir Goshin and Valery Koreshkov, Executive Secretary of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State Sergei Strelchenko, the Russian President's special representative for international cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic, Artur Chilingarov, two-time hero of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut Piotr Klimuk, and also representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Committee of the Union State, the Belarusian Diaspora and the Belarusian Embassy in Russia.

The participants laid flowers to the memorial signs Minsk Hero City and Brest Hero Fortress in the Alexander Garden. The military orchestra of the Guards of Honor performed the national anthem of the Republic of Belarus. The meeting participants reviewed a ceremonial march by the Preobrazhensky Regiment guards of honor.

"3 July is a memorable date for us. On this day, we always get together to pay tribute to the memory of those soldiers who liberated our homeland from the Nazis," Igor Petrishenko told journalists after the ceremony. “Today we celebrate the holiday together with our good friends in Russia. They always wish Belarus positive development and closer integration both within the framework of our key project of the Union State, and also within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization,” the Ambassador said.
