Naumovich: Belarusians will not forget those, who gave their lives to defend the Motherland

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) – Belarusians will never forget the names of those, who gave their lives to defend the freedom and independence of the Motherland. The statement was made by Andrei Naumovich, Chairman of the Human Rights, National Relations, and Mass Media Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, during the presentation of the monograph Belarus’ Liberation. 1943-1944 on 17 April. The monograph has been put together by Belarusian and Russian historians, BelTA has learned.

“The Belarusian land heard the last thunder of the war more than seventy years ago. The scars left by that war were healed a long time ago. New generations have risen. But time cannot erase the memory of the tragic and heroic events that happened in 1941-1944. Residents of Belarus will never forget the names of those, who gave their lives to defend the freedom and independence of the Motherland,” said Andrei Naumovich.

The MP remarked that there is no place in Belarus where people fail to pay a tribute of love and deep respect for heroes of the Great Patriotic War. “The present generation and future ones should do everything to perpetuate the memory of the past and the memory about those, who liberated the Belarusian land,” he added.

The book illustrates the most significant events that occurred in Belarus in 1943-1944. It analyzes the state of affairs in Belarus before it was liberated by the Red Army. The book focuses on crimes committed by the Nazi during the occupation. It reveals the essence, forms and ways employed by the underground resistance movement to fight the occupants. A large part of the work is dedicated to the progress and results of combat operations, conditions witnessed during the preparations and actual combat operations, accomplishments and failures of Soviet troops. Detailed coverage of those events has been facilitated by documents from Russian archives. Many of them have been published for the first time.

The book will be of interest to Great Patriotic War veterans, researchers and pedagogues, military personnel, to everyone, who is interested in the history of the Fatherland.
