MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – On behalf of the ambassadors of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan accredited in the French Republic, Belarusian Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko conveyed a letter to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed to Minister Laurent Fabius inviting him to attend the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in France.

“Pavel Latushko presented the letter as he met with Director of the Department for Continental Europe of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eric Fournier. The ambassadors invited the French authorities to take part in the events that will be organized in France by the Embassies of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War and the Great Patriotic War,” the Belarusian Embassy explained.

The diplomatic mission also said that it is set to hold a screening of the film Brest Fortress with French subtitles in Paris. The plan of celebrations also includes wreath laying ceremonies at a cemetery of Soviet soldiers and at the memorials to the pilots of the Normandie-Niemen Regiment and Soviet members of the French Resistance.

Besides, on behalf of the abovementioned diplomatic missions, the Belarusian Embassy will hold a reception for the French authorities and diplomats. The plan of celebrations also features an official opening ceremony of a new exposition at the Le Bourget Air and Space Museum commemorating the Normandie-Niemen Regiment.

During the meeting at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pavel Latushko noted that the Great Victory is an important page of the common history that reminds people about the courage and heroism of the soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of their countries. The memory of the Victory should unite peoples and countries, he believes.
