Belarusian-Russian Cinema Week at UN Office in Geneva to mark 70th Anniversary of Victory

MINSK, 5 May (BelTA) – The week of the Belarusian and Russian films about World War II dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory was launched at the United Nations Office in Geneva, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

The event has been organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva jointly with the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation. At the opening ceremony of the Cinema Week Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Valentin Rybakov stressed the importance of preserving the memory of the victims and the heroism of the people who defeated the fascism and noted that this historic event created the conditions for the establishment of the United Nations.

A series of film screenings began with the Brest Fortress movie. It was attended by heads and employees of the missions of UN member states, representatives of the Secretariat of the United Nations Office and other international organizations based in Geneva. The Cinema Week will run until 8 May and will feature the best Soviet movies (Destiny of a Man, The Cranes Are Flying, They Fought For Their Country), the movies recently released by the Belarusfilm studio (Brest Fortress, In The Fog) and movies by Russian filmmakers (Stalingrad, White Tiger).
