Vladimir Samsonov to be Team Belarus captain at 2nd European Games

MINSK, 20 June (BelTA) – Vladimir Samsonov will be the captain of Team Belarus at the 2nd European Games in Minsk. The decision was made at a meeting of the Belarusian team in the Athletes’ Village, BelTA learned from the National Olympic Committee. 

Vladimir Samsonov will also carry the Belarusian flag during the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games that will take place in the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk on 21 June.

Vladimir Samsonov has been the leader of the Belarusian table tennis team for many years. He has taken part in six Olympic Games and numerous world and European championships. Vladimir Samsonov noted that it is a great honor for him to be the capital and the flag bearer of the Belarusian team at such an important event that is held in his native city.

Belarusian wrestler, champion of the 1st European Games Vasilisa Marzaliuk will take the oath on behalf of all athletes during the opening ceremony. After being chosen the oath taker, she said that she is very excited and happy to fulfill such an important mission. 

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 15 sports.
