Thousands of volunteers ready to help out at European Games MINSK 2019

MINSK, 25 July (BelTA) – Some 8,000 volunteers will be recruited to help out during the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019, Director of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) Georgy Katulin told reporters, BelTA has learned.

“Young people show a great interest in events of national importance. They are ready to apply their knowledge, enthusiasm and abilities. We have received a lot of applications. More than 8,000 volunteers will be recruited. We have developed a special plan of training. At first we will train coaches who then will pass on the new knowledge to other volunteers. Volunteers will help in different areas. Some will greet guests, some will assist healthcare workers or help keeep public order,” Georgy Katulin noted.

According to him, the 2nd European Games is a project that can unite young people by a common cause: to show the beauty of Belarus, her love for sport and openness not only to Europe but also to the world. This is an opportunity for them to become part of the ambitious project which will involve representatives of 50 nations and which will be watched in more than 160 countries,” Georgy Katulin noted.

On 25 July the MEGOC and the Belarusian BRSM Youth Union signed a cooperation agreement to promote sport and healthy lifestyle, to raise public awareness about the upcoming sports event. “BRSM has long established itself as a reliable partner in major sporting events, for example the 2014 IIHF World Championship. Thus, we are confident that biggest and most ambitious projects will always be a success. The 2nd European Games is the largest multi-purpose Forum in the history of sovereign Belarus,” Georgy Katulin added.

The 2nd European Games will take place in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in about 200 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in 10 sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
