Russia House for European Games inaugurated in Minsk

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – The Russia House for the 2nd European Games has been officially inaugurated in Minsk on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

The ribbon was cut by Acting First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus Viktor Lukashenko, President of the Russian Olymic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov, Rusisan Sport Minister Pavel kolobkov, Belarus Sport and Toruism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk and Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC) CEO George Katulin.

Viktor Lukashenko emphasized: “Our countries pay great attention both to the elite sport and also physical education and a healthy lifestyle. Thanks to this and to the participation of a great number of people it is possible to organize such large-scale projects as the 2nd European Games.”

Pavel Kolobkov thanked Belarus and noted that the Russia House offers a great atmosphere. “It is a good place to get together and sum up the performance of the team. I believe this venue will attract not only Russians but also sport fans from other countries,” he added.

Viktor Lukashenko and rector of the Russian International Olympic University Lev Belousov signed a memorandum of cooperation between the National Olympic Committee of Belarus and the Russian International Olympic University.

The parties officially concluded the agreements on the joint development and implementation of education programs on sports management through the use of the latest educational technologies and teaching methods, scientific and applied research, and expert dialogue to develop sports industry and the Olympic movement, expand scientific and student exchange between the Russian International Olympic University and the universities recommended by the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

The 2nd European Games are underway in Minsk on 21-30 June. The games will feature more than 4,000 of the continent’s best athletes from 50 countries competing in 200 medal events across 15 sports. Belarus has fielded its athletes in all the sports. Team Belarus comprises 221 athletes.
