Plans to set up four fan zones during 2nd European Games in Minsk

MINSK, 27 September (BelTA) - Four fan zones will be set up during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019, Sergei Furmanov, head of the sports and tourism department of the Minsk City Hall, said at a meeting of the Minsk authorities on 27 September, BelTA has learned.

The area near the Sports Palace will be the main entertainment zone. It will operate from 19 to 30 June 2019 and include public catering and vendor zones, an arts and crafts fair, and thematic areas dedicated to the Belarusian regions. Fan zones will also be designated near Minsk Arena, Chizhovka Arena and Minsk’s Dinamo Stadium. They will offer a wide range of dishes of national cuisine and Belarusian souvenirs.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. The Games will feature 15 sports: badminton, 3x3 basketball, boxing, wrestling(freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, women's wrestling), cycling (track and road), gymnastics (artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatics, aerobics, and trampoline), rowing (kayak and canoe), judo, karate, track and field athletics, sambo, archery, shooting (including clay target shooting), table tennis, and beach football. Athletes will compete in more than 200 medal events in 23 sport disciplines. Competitions in 10 sports will serve as qualifiers for the 32nd Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo (badminton, boxing, cycling, canoe and kayak, judo, karate, athletics, archery, rifle and pistol shooting, table tennis).The European Games 2019 are expected to attract about 4,000 athletes, 2,000 coaches and other representatives of official delegations from 50 European national Olympic committees.

The plan of preparations for the 2nd European Games include the repair of the Minsk street and road network, bridges across the Svisloch river, sidewalks and the development of transport and hotel infrastructure.
