Over 1,000 applications for 2019 European Games mascot design contest

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – More than 1,000 applications have been submitted for the contest to develop a mascot for the Second European Games 2019 so far, Georgy Katulin, the head of the Directorate for the Second European Games, told the media at the presentation of the best works of the contest on 14 November, BelTA has learned.

“Belarusian young people have responded to the call to take part in the contest. As far as I know, art teams, clubs, and even schools have sent their works. We have received over a thousand applications,” Georgy Katulin said.

He commended the high level of the works submitted. “The judges will have to deal with plenty of hard work. Some designs are true works of art. Love for the homeland is easily seen in every picture,” he underlined.

Members of the BRSM volunteer movement Kind Heart have arranged a venue “Volunteer: The Soul of Sport” to help fill in the application form for participation in the 2019 European Games in the capacity of volunteer. During the exhibition, members of the Belarusian delegation to the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi presented a book of good wishes to the Belarusian athletes due to take part in the 2019 European Games.

On the initiative of the BRSM Youth Union, the National House of Youth hosted a presentation of the best works of the open national contest to develop a mascot for the 2019 European Games in Minsk on 14 November. Participants of the exhibition were invited to take part in a symbolic vote for best designs submitted to the contest. Although the vote will not influence the results of the competition, it is meant to become an impetus for those who have yet to submit an application for participation. The deadline is 15 November. The contest is organized by Belarus’ National Olympic Committee, the Information Ministry, the Directorate of the Second European Games 2019, and the National State TV and Radio Company.
