Minsk marks 2nd European Games with stamp dedication ceremony

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – A dedication ceremony of a special stamp celebrating the 2nd European Games was held in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

A scenario of augmented reality imagery which goes with special stamps issued ahead of the 2nd European Games was presented during the ceremony. Taking part in the event were Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan and Director General of the Belpochta mail service Vladimir Matusevich.

The special stamp will be in use from 21 till 30 June. The color of mastic is red. Design was suggested by Marina Vitkovskaya. The stamp has been made with the support of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee.

Konstantin Shulgan congratulated Belarusians on the opening day of the European Games, wished athletes victories and sport fans unforgettable experience. “The games celebrate not only sport but also our country. This is our chance to show our hospitality,” the minister said. “This dedication ceremony will also go into the history of the 2nd European Games.”

Vladimir Matusevich said that the Belpochta mail service has celebrated the games with special postage products. “I am happy that the mail service can contribute to such an important event for the country. I hope that good news with the special Minsk European Games stamps will fly to all parts of the world,” he noted.

Some 118 out of more than 1,300 Belpochta stamp sheets, over 50 stamped envelopes and postcards feature sport-related images. Belpochta has already marked the 2nd European Games with four stamps depicting popular sports. Their colors match those of the 2nd European Games symbols – the logo and the Bright Year, Bright You motto.

The stamps go with an augmented reality technology. With the help of the free Ar Marka Belarus application, a specially created 3D image appears in augmented reality when a smartphone camera focuses on the stamps.

The 2nd European Games in Minsk will run till 30 June. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete for 200 medal sets in 15 sports.
