MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – The Flame of Peace torch of the 2nd European Games was carried through the streets of the Slovakian capital Bratislava and the Czech Republic’s Brno on 10 May, BelTA learned from the press service of the Minsk European Games Organizing Committee (MEGOC).

Among the torchbearers was Anna Shvaba, a teacher of the Belarusian language at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra. “Such events are a great opportunity to tell Europeans about Belarus, not only about sports, but also about our history, culture and traditions. For me, the invitation to be a torchbearer was a pleasant surprise,” she said.

Following the ceremony in Bratislava, the Flame of Peace team set off to Brno, where the Czech Olympic Committee organized a sport event for children. The focus was made on judo and archery. Attending the event was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Czech Republic Valery Kurdyukov. “Sport is a separate type of diplomacy which should be developed. From the very beginning, when the initiative was supported by the Czech Olympic Committee, we tried to choose an unusual way to organize the ceremony and decided on this sports school,” he said.

On 11 May, the Flame of Peace will be welcomed in Poland.
