Flame of Peace relay of 2nd European Games travels across Nesvizh

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Nesvizh has welcomed the participants of the Flame of Peace torch relay of the 2nd European Games. The flame travelled across the biggest landmarks of the town, BelTA learned from the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.
 
The torch arrived in Minsk Oblast from Gomel Oblast. On 11 June Soligorsk took up the relay. The following day the flame shone over Nesvizh.

The relay started at the town hall. Hundreds of local residents came to see the ceremony. Taking part in it were Chairman of the Nesvizh District Council of Deputies Valery Lazyuk and first torchbearer, Deputy Chair of the Belarusian Union of Women Nadezhda Yermakova.

Athletes, performers, representatives of Belarusian and foreign organizations joined the relay. Among them were head of the Flame of Peace torch relay Olga Rybachenok, Artistic Director and soloist of the Clear Voice band Valery Prigun, bronze medalist of the Beijing Olympics Mikhail Siamionau, physical education teacher at the Nesvizh Gymnasium Tatiana Terpitskaya, actor Oleg Garbuz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama, Director of the Belarusian Children’s Hospice Anna Gorchakova, and Chief of the International Organization for Migration Office in Belarus Zeynal Hajiyev.

The Flame of Peace was carried along the major streets of Nesvizh and local landmarks, including the Slutsk Gate and the fountain. The Nesvizh Palace became the finishing point of the relay. Borisov will take up the torch relay on 13 June.

The flame of the 2nd European Games was lit at Ara Pacis Museum in Rome on 3 May. Then, Belarusian climbers took the torch to the summit of Mont Blanc. The torch traveled through Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia and Poland.

In Belarus, the Flame of Peace has already been to Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Mogilev Oblast and Gomel Oblast. Minsk will welcome the Flame of Peace in State Flag Square on 17 June. The Torch will travel along Pobeditelei Avenue on 17 June and along Nezavisimosti Avenue on 18 June. On 19 June, torchbearers will visit Minsk landmarks, attend the greeting ceremony for athletes at the Athletes’ Village. The Flame of Peace torch relay will finish at Dinamo National Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games on 21 June.
