Dynamic New Athletics to be tested at Dinamo Stadium

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) – A new format of athletics for the 2nd European Games 2019 will be tested at Dinamo Stadium in Minsk on 26 September, the organizers of the tournament told a press conference on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

The Dynamic New Athletics will debut in Minsk next year. Athletes will compete in 10 events: trackathlon (a combination of running, shot put, and a standing long jump), long jump (women), 100m (men), javelin throw (women), 100m (women), 110m Hurdles (men), high jump (men), 100m Hurdles (women), and the mixed 4x400m relay.

“We were looking for new approaches and formats and finally decided in favor of this project which is spectacular and convenient for TV broadcasting (competitions last for not more than 120 minutes). We do not doubt that fans will like the Dynamic New Athletics,” noted technical delegate of the European Athletics Federation Vadim Nigmatov.

Athletic competitions at the 2nd European Games will feature 30 best national teams based on the results of the European team athletics championships in 2017 in the super, first and second leagues. The tournament will include a qualifying round, where all participating teams will be divided into five groups, a quarterfinal, a semifinal and a final that will feature six best teams.

“The results of Belarusian athletes this season give high hopes for their successful performance at the 2nd European Games. The Belarusian team does well in the disciplines that make up the format of the tournament. We will do our best to win medals in Minsk in 2019,” Chairman of the Belarusian Athletics Federation Vadim Devyatovsky said.

Athletic competitions of the 2nd European Games are scheduled for 23-28 June. The competitions will feature 690 athletes from 30 teams.
