MINSK, 28 March (BelTA) – The BRSM Youth Union is helping to set up steward teams for the upcoming 2nd European Games in Minsk, Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Aleksandra Goncharova told BelTA.

“The BRSM invites young people to use a unique opportunity to join the friendly team of participants of the 2nd European Games. We are currently helping to form teams of stewards. These are the staff who will help keep public order and the safety of spectators at the stadium during the games. These should be young men of full age and in good physical form, because the work of a steward can sometimes reach 12 hours a day,” said Aleksandra Goncharova.

According to her, the task is to recruit about 300 such men. “Of course, we give preference to people who live in Minsk. At the same time young men from other cities have also been expressing the wish to join the team of stewards, so we will be considering the ways to accommodate them in the Belarusian capital,” the secretary of the BRSM Youth Union said.

Aleksandra Goncharova added that the outstanding people of the country, including athletes, public and cultural figures, scientists, as well as the most active representatives of the BRSM Youth Union will participate in the Flame of Peace torch relay. The flame of the 2nd European Games will be lit in Rome on 3 May. The flame will arrive in Belarus on 11 May. The route will go through all regions of the country and its landmark places. The torch relay will last for 50 days and will involve 450 torchbearers. The final stage of the relay will be the carrying of the Flame of Peace at the opening ceremony of the 2nd European Games at the Dinamo Stadium in Minsk on 21 June.

Among the torchbearers from the BRSM Youth Union in Brest Oblast will be finalist of the international competition SanRemo Junior (Italy), student of the Igor Krutoy Popular Music Academy, two-time finalist of the Junior Eurovision national selection in 2013 and 2014, volunteer and participant in national charity projects Angelina Pipper. Vitebsk Oblast will be represented by three-time world champion, eight-time World Cup champion, professional world champion, world-class kickboxing and Thai boxing master of sports Sergei Skiba.

“The torchbearers in Grodno Oblast will include winner of the national tourist meeting Olympia-2018 Andrei Poloiko. Minsk oblast will be represented by international master of sports, organizer of the national and international powerlifting competitions Pavel Klyndyuk. Among the torchbearers will also be First Secretary of the BRSM Central Committee Dmitry Voronyuk,” said Aleksandra Goncharova.

The 2nd European Games will be held in Minsk on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will be qualifiers for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing, and judo will be held in the format of European championships.
