Second European Games in Belarus

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov instructed to complete the construction of the facilities for the Second European Games in Minsk in time, BelTA has learned.

During the visit to the construction site of the Student Village the Belarusian head of government was briefed on the progress made in the construction of its biggest dormitory. The 25-storeyed building being built in Dzerzhinskogo Avenue is designed to accommodate 1,800 people. The first two floors will include an eatery, administrative offices, an assembly hall, and gyms. Residential apartments will consist of 1-2 rooms, a kitchen, a shower cabin and a lavatory. A catering pavilion for official competitors and a subsidiary of the students’ clinic will be set up in the dormitory as well.

Andrei Kobyakov instructed to complete the construction of the dormitory in December 2018. “The project has all necessary funds and should be commissioned by the end 2018,” the PM stressed.

The prime minister also got familiar with the progress made in the construction of a new building of the National Scientific and Practical Center of Sports at the crossroad of Timiryazeva Street and Narochanskaya Street. According to Belarusian Sport and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko, athletes will be able to undergo all medical and comprehensive scientific tests in the center. “It will be convenient for athletes. As soon as the facility is commissioned, everything will be united in one center,” the minister said. The center will provide scientific and medical data necessary for training Belarusian national teams for the world and European championships, Olympic Games.

The facility is around 50% complete and should be commissioned by 1 September 2018. The prime minister stressed that everything is in place for the timely completion of the construction; financing is on schedule.

Andrei Kobyakov instructed to finish the construction of another facility, namely a multi-function game sports hall, by the end of this year. The project is financed through the loans of the Development Bank. The estimated cost is Br22.2 million. During the European Games 2019 the facility will be used as a training ground in game sports (handball) and martial arts (boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, sambo).

The prime minister also visited the Palace of Water Sports that can be used during the European Games in Minsk.
