Belarus first in Canoe Sprint overall standings at European Games in Minsk

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) - Belarus won 10 medals in Canoe Sprint at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Volha Khudzenka clinched gold in the K1 and K2 500m, silver in K4 500m and bronze in K2 200m.

Maryna Litvinchuk also bagged four medals. Together with Volha Khudzenko she won the gold medal in K2 500m and also in K1 5000m,silver in K4 500m and bronze in the K2 200m.

Belarus’ Artsem Kozyr and Alena Nazdrova claimed the champion’s title in the Men’s C1 200m and Women’s C1 200m events.

Belarus’ Nadzeya Makarchanka and Volha Klimava won the Women’s C2 500m silver. Aleh Yurenia added the Men's K1 1000m bronze to Belarus' medal haul. So did Dzmitry Tratsiakou, in the Men’s K1 200m.

Team Belarus placed first in the Canoe Sprint medal tally, taking five gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. Hungary is second with four gold and five silver medals. Germany is third with one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko went to see a canoe sprint competition of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 on 27 June. The head of state was one of the fans watching the competition from the stands. On this day the Belarusian athletes once again confirmed the high level of their sports skills.

The next major competition will be the 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Szeged, Hungary in August.
