2nd European Games menu to meet international catering standards

MOGILEV, 30 January (BelTA) – The menu for the 2nd European Games will meet all the international catering standards, pro-rector of the Mogilev State University of Food Technologies, WorldSkills Belarus national expert in Cooking Olga Matsikova told BelTA.

The university students took part in the development of technological documentary materials for catering services during the 2nd European Games as part of their graduation projects. The results of their work will be used by the Stolitsa Business Center to organize catering for athletes and representatives of the client groups of the 2nd European Games. “Much attention is paid to the organization of catering for athletes as achievements in sport become complicated, and sometimes even impossible at all, without proper nutrition. When developing the menu, we took into account the basic requirements and recommendations of the national Olympic committees, and current trends, including scientific ones,” said Olga Matsikova.

In their graduation projects, students summarized the scientific principles and recommendations for proper nutrition, the importance of essential nutrients and their optimal ratio in the nutrition of athletes, as well as the risks that may arise from improper and unbalanced nutrition. They also analyzed the physiological aspects of the menu for athletes. “The menu for athletes will be varied. It will also feature national dishes. We hope guests will like the Belarusian cuisine,” said Olga Matsikova.

During the 2nd European Games about 6,500-7,000 athletes and staff will be fed on a daily basis. Belarus’ best catering specialists will be brought in to help in the Games’ kitchens. Olga Matsikova will hold the first stage of culinary trainings in Grodno on 1 February, and later in all other regional centers and the capital of Belarus.

The main catering venue for athletes and official representatives of the European national Olympic committees is currently under construction in the student's village in Minsk.

Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
