World Bank’s private sector incentives program to help five cluster initiatives in Belarus

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – Five promising cluster initiatives have been shortlisted for participation in a program designed to support private sector in Belarus. The program is being implemented by the World Bank using money of the European Union, representatives of the Belarusian Economy Ministry told BelTA.

Five initiatives were chosen after an express evaluation and interviews on 12 June. They focus on healthcare, pharmaceutics, and biotechnologies; instrument making and robot technology; agrarian and green economy; information and communications technologies. These projects will participate in further events of the program. An introductory seminar took place on 13 June, during which the list of project events in the area of cluster development was presented.

While working together, World Bank experts and Belarus’ representatives exchanged opinions about key aspects of cluster development. Participants of the seminar discussed conceptual and methodological approaches to evaluating the competitiveness of the national economy and using a cluster-based development model as an effective tool for enhancing the competitive ability of individual commercial entities and Belarus’ social and economic system as a whole.
