Uzbekistan shows interest in industrial cooperation with Gomel Oblast

GOMEL, 28 November (BelTA) – Uzbekistan is showing interest in developing industrial cooperation with Gomel Oblast in various areas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Belarus Nasirjan Yusupov told BelTA after the meeting with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik on 28 November.

The ambassador believes that the prospects for bilateral cooperation are enormous. “There are many interesting economic entities in Gomel whose products will be in demand in Uzbekistan,” he said stressing the importance of developing industrial cooperation. “It is possible through the terms of industrial cooperation to produce some products in Belarus and some in Uzbekistan,” the diplomat said.

Nasirjan Yusupov named cooperation with Gomselmash among the most promising areas. Projects of the Gomel regional agricultural experimental station are also interesting. “We have a lot of research institutes in the agricultural sector. We need to cooperate in specific areas. It will be interesting for both Belarus and Uzbekistan,” the ambassador said.

According to the diplomat, products of SvetlogorskKhimvolokno are popular in Uzbekistan. “Uzbek investors are ready to invest in the development of the company. Our goal is to create necessary conditions for this,” he added.

Nasirjan Yusupov said that Uzbekistan has a great export potential. “We see the demand for the goods that are associated with our traditional crops: cotton, fruits and agriculture products. Other sectors have been rapidly evolving too, particularly industrial production, which may be of interest to Belarusian enterprises and business,” he said.

As the bilateral cooperation grows, there will emerge new areas for joint work, the ambassador believes. In the future the jointly-produced goods can be promoted to the markets of third countries.

In Gomel Oblast Nasirjan Yusupov visited a number of enterprises including the Gomselmash producer of farm machines and Spartak confectionery to discuss priority areas of cooperation.

The trade between Gomel Oblast and Uzbekistan amounted to $7.3 million in January-September 2018, which was up by 35.8% over the same period a year prior. In January-September almost 30 Gomel-based enterprises exported their goods to Uzbekistan. Export items included timber, polyester yarns and nonwoven synthetic materials, hardware, wallpaper, forage harvesters. Gomel Oblast imported cotton yarn, polyethylene, untreated zinc, ready-made garments.

In January-September 2018 Gomel Oblast raised $138,900 in direct investments from Uzbekistan. The region is home to 40 organizations founded by Uzbek legal entities and individuals.
