Uzbekistan among Belarus’ top 10 trade partners

MINSK, 6 September (BelTA) – Uzbekistan is one of Belarus’ top 10 trade partners in terms of trade turnover. Belarusian Economy Minister Aleksandr Chervyakov made the statement during the plenary session of the first Belarus-Uzbekistan women’s business forum, BelTA has learned. The plenary session focused on women’s potential for advancing Belarus-Uzbekistan business cooperation.

Aleksandr Chervyakov said: “Uzbekistan is one of Belarus’ top 10 trade partners in terms of trade turnover. Over $500 million [in 2022] and the seventh place in the country’s export. Belarus’ main exports to Uzbekistan are meat and dairy products, goods made of wood, pharmaceutical products, tractors, road tractors, and so on. At the same time merchandise import from Uzbekistan is more diversified. In 2022 the staple imports from Uzbekistan were light industry products, vegetables, fruits, copper wire, pipes, and so on.”

At present Belarus is home to 84 organizations with Uzbek capital. They specialize in making special-purpose automobiles, tractors, and footwear. Over 100 enterprises have been founded by residents of the Republic of Belarus in Uzbekistan. Representative offices have been opened of companies operating in the field of international transportation, software development, production of medications and veterinary preparations. A joint venture to make dairy products was opened in Tashkent in 2022. “The choice of products is broad. We have to continue working, setting up new manufacturing facilities, and expanding the choice of products in mutual trade,” the economy minister noted.

A delegation of the Uzbek parliament led by Chairwoman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva is in Belarus on a visit. The first Belarus-Uzbek women’s business forum has been organized as part of the visit. Panel sessions of the forum took place the day before. The key event of the business forum is taking place now: the plenary session focusing on women’s potential for advancing Belarus-Uzbekistan business cooperation.

The forum has been organized by the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.
