Turkey eager to increase trade with Belarus

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Turkey intends to increase and diversify trade with Belarus, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Belarus Kezban Nilvana Darama on the eve of the arrival of Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlut Cavusoglu in Minsk.

The ambassador said that the two-day visit of the Turkish minister of foreign affairs on 27-28 August will be full of negotiations and meetings. For instance, Mevlut Cavusoglu is expected to meet with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.

The Turkish minister of foreign affairs is also expected to meet with Turkish businessmen, who work in Belarus. Ways to step up trade and economic relations between Turkey and Belarus will have to be determined during the meeting. Major Turkish investors will also take part in the meeting. A total of about 25 representatives of Turkey, who cooperate with Belarus, are supposed to take part in the meeting.

The main goals of the visit are to increase trade turnover, diversify the choice of exports and imports, and expand mutual investments, Kezban Nilvana Darama said.

Belarus and Turkey cooperate in agriculture and trade in automobile parts among other areas. The diplomat drew attention to the high quality of Belarusian agricultural products, including dairy ones. In her opinion, taking into account the mutually complementary nature of Belarusian and Turkish agricultures there is a great potential for tighter cooperation in this direction. In particular, Turkey is interested in buying the Belarusian dairy products, which are not made in Turkish territory.

The sides are working on the possibility of setting up enterprises to jointly manufacture Belarusian machines and vehicles in Turkey, including with prospects of selling them in third countries.
