Sudan seeks closer ties with Belarus in animal husbandry

Sudan seeks closer ties with Belarus in animal husbandry

MINSK, 6 May (BelTA) - Animal husbandry plays a key role in the economy of Sudan, so the country is interested in the experience of Belarus in this area, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sudan to Belarus Omer Elamin Abdallah Fadlallah said during a working meeting with Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Yuri Gorlov. The meeting discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation in agriculture, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

A memorandum of understanding signed in 2016 between the agricultural ministries of both countries became the foundation for bilateral cooperation. Last year, trade between Belarus and Sudan primarily consisted of Sudanese imports of gum arabic, a transparent resin used in adhesives, confectionery, and pharmaceuticals.

"Our products are available in over 100 countries, and we are among the world’s leading exporters of meat and dairy products. We are ready to offer a wide range of solutions to our partners," Yuri Gorlov said reaffirming Belarus’ commitment to expanding its export potential in Sudan.

Belarus is open to cooperation in supplying cattle and poultry feed, gluten for baking, veterinary medicines, and vaccines. Belarusian agricultural universities are prepared to share expertise and develop joint educational programs to train qualified specialists in agriculture.

“Sudan specializes in growing sugar cane, sorghum, peanuts, millet, vegetables and fruits. Animal husbandry plays a key role in the country's economy. We are keen to learn from Belarus' experience in this area,” the ambassador expressed the readiness to develop cooperation.

Yuri Gorlov invited Sudanese government and business representatives to participate in the international agricultural exhibition Belagro 2025 due to be held in June.
