Strong interest in Belarusian nuclear power plant’s stand at Atomexpo 2015 in Moscow

MOSCOW, 1 June (BelTA) – The stand of the Belarusian nuclear power plant met huge interest among delegates and guests of the 7th international forum Atomexpo 2015 in Moscow, BelTA learned from Ivan Yurkin, advisor for the Republic of Belarus of OOO Rosatom Eastern Europe, on 1 June.

Strong interest in Belarusian nuclear power plant’s stand at Atomexpo 2015 in Moscow“Since the very morning a lot of visitors, not only from Russia, but other countries as well, have been crowding the exposition of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. It is universally acknowledged that the international community closely monitors the progress in building the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The visitors asked about technological processes and the latest safety systems employed by the nuclear power plant. Taking into account the strong attention Belarusians have faced this year the stand of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2016 is likely to become larger. It will also contribute to the growth of respect for Belarus in the international scene as a country that develops its own nuclear industry for peaceful purposes while relying on cutting-edge technologies,” stressed Ivan Yurkin.

He added that the Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the design that has already been tested. “A number of nuclear power plants in other countries have been built using the design. At present foreign specialists speak very highly of the Belarusian nuclear power plant,” stated Ivan Yurkin.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build an AES-2006 type nuclear power plant 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units with the total output capacity of up to 2,400MW (2x1,200MW). The Russian merged company OAO NIAEP – ZAO ASE is the general designer and the general contractor of the project. In line with the general contract for building the nuclear power plant the first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2018, with the second one to go online in 2020.
