State-run retailer in Orsha District to go bankrupt

ORSHA, 14 August (BelTA) – By the end of the year the Belarusian Republican Union of Consumer Societies (Belkoopsoyuz) intends to file a petition with the court to bankrupt the Orsha District division and shut it down. The information was released by Head of the Belarus President Administration Natalya Kochanova during the government conference held on 14 August to discuss the fulfillment of the head of state’s instructions to develop Orsha District, BelTA has learned.

Natalya Kochanova noted that the shopping floor area in Orsha District is below the social standards in the sphere of retail. Belkoopsoyuz intends to file a court petition for bankrupting and shutting down its Orsha District division by the end of the year.

The official noted that vigorous work is in progress to open new privately owned retail outlets in Orsha District.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko instructed Chairman of the State Control Committee Leonid Anfimov to set up a working group to examine Belkoopsoyuz’s operation in Orsha District from the point of view of the services the residents receive.

“Why do we even need state-run shops then, which I tried to save when I was an MP? Because people understood that nobody would cater to residents in rural areas if there was no state-run retail chain. And I am not 100% sure that everything will be all right if Belkoopsoyuz retail outlets are privatized,” noted the head of state.
