Stadler to hand over two Intercity trains to Belarusian Railways in spring 2016

FANIPOL, 10 February (BelTA) – Stadler Company will hand over two experimental trains Intercity to the Belarusian Railways in spring 2016, Stadler President and Chairman of the Board Peter Spuhler told a press conference at Stadler Minsk on 10 February, BelTA informs.

“Our cooperation with the Belarusian Railways may be defined as perfect. Our 16 trains Flirt operate in Belarus. Besides, two prototype seven-car trains Intercity will be handed over for the use on the Belarusian railway in spring 2016. By the way, ten suburban trains for the Belarusian Railways were the first order for Stadler Minsk,” he said.

As for the issues related to a big order for Russia’s Aeroexpress, the Stadler owner stressed that all the problems were almost solved. “Aeroexpress’ initial order included 25 trains. However, due to the crisis the order was reduced to 24. Today they are ready to buy 11 out of these 24 trains: nine six-car and two four-car trains. We have already got the first payments. Five trains from the order have already been transported to Azerbaijan. The country plans to purchase five more. We plan to sell the rest three trains on the CIS market as well,” Peter Spuhler said. In his words, the company is also interested to supply its rolling stock for the Minsk metro.

According to Peter Spuhler, the plant in Fanipol has so far assembled 24 double-deck trains, two Intercity-type trains for the Belarusian Railways, one prototype of the tram Metelica designed especially for the post-Soviet countries.
