Slovak energy companies ready to work with Belarus in building, operating nuclear power plants

MINSK, 15 November (BelTA) – Slovak power engineering companies are ready to cooperate with Belarus in matters concerning the construction and operation of nuclear power plants, BelTA learned from representatives of the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo.

Representatives of Slovak power engineering companies are expected to visit a number of power engineering installations in Belarus on 15-18 November. Among other places the delegation will visit the construction site of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

The Slovak experts will be made familiar with progress of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project and the development of infrastructure in the nearby town of Ostrovets. The Slovak experts will also be informed about the technical parameters of the Belarusian nuclear power plant construction project (AES-2006), and measures meant to ensure safety and the power plant’s protection from external impacts. During the tour of the construction site the foreign specialists will also learn about the measures the project’s customer takes to ensure the quality of construction work.

Prospects of Belarusian-Slovak cooperation were discussed when a delegation of the Belenergo company visited Slovakia in early November. The delegation also included representatives of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant and the Belarusian companies OAO Electrocentrmontazh and OAO Tsentroenergomontazh. The Belarusian delegation was made familiar with the Slovak experience of building, commissioning, and decommissioning nuclear power plants. As a result of the visit the sides mentioned cooperation in building and operating nuclear power plants among promising cooperation avenues. Participation of Slovak investors in projects to build hydropower plants in Belarus, participation of Belarusian design, construction, installation, and commissioning companies in power engineering projects in Slovakia, and the joint implementation of power engineering projects were mentioned among promising cooperation avenues as well.

During the visit the sides initialed a memorandum on cooperation in power engineering between the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo, the Belarusian nuclear power plant operating company, and the Slovakian company STM Power. The document is supposed to be signed soon.
