SK Hynix praises conditions for IT companies in Belarus

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – Chief Vice President of SK Hynix (Republic of Korea) Tony Yoon talked about the activity of his company in Belarus at the meeting of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko with representatives of the country’s IT community on 12 April, BelTA has learned.

“In 2014, we made a decision to branch out into Belarus. We opened our representative office here. At first it was not big, just a handful of employees. Over five years, however, the staff has increased considerably. Today it is about 200 specialists. These specialists play a key role in the structure of our company. It is very important that we recruit people on a competitive basis. There are a large number of specialists who are interested in working here with us,” said Tony Yoon.

The company has concluded agreements with leading Belarusian universities on training its future workers. A laboratory has been opened at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics to provide young specialists with advanced skills and knowledge.

“Mr. President, thank you very much and big thanks to the Belarusian government for this great project, the Hi-Tech Park. In my opinion, it plays a key role in the development of the IT sector,” he added.

SK Hynix is the world's second largest manufacturer of memory semiconductors. It makes part of SK Group. This is one of the pillars of the South Korean economy, the third largest after Samsung and Hyundai. More than 180 highly qualified specialists work in the Minsk Development Center in the Hi-Tech Park. The company has suggested a number innovative solutions and filed ten patent applications. In 2018, the output of the Belarusian division soared 47% to $23.3 million.
