Regions of Belarus, Russia sign ten cooperation documents in Mogilev

MOGILEV, 12 October (BelTA) – Ten agreements, action plans and treaties were signed between regions of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

The signing ceremony took place at the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Interregional Cooperation of the Council of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of Russia on the sidelines of the 5th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. In particular, the Mogilev Oblast Council signed cooperation agreements with the Legislative Assemblies of Kaluga Oblast and Krasnodar Krai. The Grodno Oblast Council will promote cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology and culture with the Kaliningrad Oblast Duma. Similar documents were signed between the Gomel Oblast Council and the Legislative Assembly of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, and between the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee and the Government of Novosibirsk Oblast.

Marianna Shchetkina, Vice Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, told reporters that the parliaments of Belarus and Russia reviewed the results of the monitoring of the implementation of the provisions of the Union State Treaty and discussed a possibility to set up breeding and genetics centers. Apart from that, the MPs analyzed the fulfillment of the instructions the heads of state gave at the previous forum of regions.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs Oleg Melnichenko told reporters that the Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia proved its efficiency as a platform to strengthen bilateral interstate relations. The senator said that all in all, some 27 agreements and treaties are to be signed during the forum. These are intergovernmental and interregional documents, as well as cooperation agreements between cities and municipal units of Belarus and Russia. “This attests to the fact that we are expanding not only economic ties, but also cultural and educational contacts. The agreements to be signed are quite comprehensive,” he noted.
