Prospects of developing Belarus-Japan economic cooperation discussed in Tokyo

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) – Another round of consultations between the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs took place in Tokyo on 13 April, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov while the Japanese delegation was led by Deputy Director General of the European Affairs Bureau at the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Toshihiro Aiki. The sides discussed a broad range of Belarusian-Japanese cooperation affairs, including the advancement of the political dialogue, trade, economic, and investment cooperation, ways to step up interaction in the international scene, humanitarian and scientific contacts between the two countries.

The Japanese side thanked Belarus for giving Japanese children, who had been affected by the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, an opportunity to spend some time in Belarus as part of exchange programs for children.

While in Tokyo Valentin Rybakov also met with Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Motome Takisawa. Valentin Rybakov also met with President of the Japanese Association for Trade with Russia and Newly-Independent States (ROTOBO), President of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Corporation Shigeru Murayama, and Executive Officer of the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) Tetsuya Koizumi.

During the meetings attention mostly focused on the advancement of Belarusian-Japanese economic cooperation, including ways to galvanize contacts between the business circles of Belarus and Japan and the organization of joint events of economic nature.
