Polish businessmen show interest in doing business in Belarus

MOGILEV, 12 November (BelTA) – Polish businessmen are interested in developing their business in Belarus, Kujawsko-Pomorskie vice-marshal Slawomir Kopysc told a press briefing as he attended the Belarusian-Polish regional economic forum in Mogilev "Trade, Processing, Investment" on 12 November, BelTA has learned.

The forum is the first serious step in developing economic cooperation between Kujawsko-Pomorskie Province of Poland and Mogilev Oblast. There is a strong potential for it, and business has concrete proposals and capital for investing. “We are interested in developing cooperation in the areas of high innovative technology, education and tourism, establish closer cooperation between youth and public organizations. I am sure it will promote economic growth,” said Slawomir Kopysc.

According to Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky, Poland is one of the main economic partners of Mogilev Oblast. The cooperation with Poland has been dynamically developing in the recent years. Suffice it to say that in January-September 2015 Mogilev Oblast’s export to Poland increased by 9% in comparison with the same period last year. “We would like to continue our cooperation and expand our corporate, partner relations in part of setting up joint companies. We have enough to offer each other in various spheres of activity,” the Governor said.

In his words, the emphasis in cooperation will be made on the areas with a well-developed raw material base: woodworking, manufacturing of building materials, production and processing of the agricultural produce. The region is interested in the Polish experience in vegetable and fruit processing. Talks will be held on setting up a joint company of the kind in the oblast. Another promising area of developing cooperation is collaboration between companies in mechanical engineering and industrial production.

“In order to move further along the path of innovative economic development, it is important to establish cooperation in the education sector, i.e. to share information, new scientific achievements and technology, implement them into the production to create new jobs, produce competitive products in order to export them jointly to the EU, EEU and third countries,” Vladimir Domanevsky said. The Mogilev Oblast Governor also suggested developing cooperation between students to build on economic, commercial and friendly mutual relations. “It is a good platform to work on further cooperation which is to be built further by the young generation in the future,” said Vladimir Domanevsky.

During the economic forum Polish businessmen got familiar with the economic and investment potential of Mogilev Oblast and the Free Economic Zone Mogilev, doing business conditions and preferences. They also took part in business talks and visited a number of big industrial companies of Mogilev and the exhibition of the leading processing companies of the oblast. Representatives of the Polish company PREZES showed interest in the products of the Mogilev Dairy Company Babushkina Krynka and offered their services in exporting these products to Poland.

Poland is one of the main foreign trade partners of Mogilev Oblast. The country accounted for 9.2% in the oblast’s trade with non-CIS countries in 2014 and reached 14.5% in January-September 2015. Over the nine months of 2015 the trade between Mogilev Oblast and Poland totaled $85.1 million, including $31.3 million in exports and $53.7 million in imports.
