Poland reopens border checkpoints with Belarus

Poland reopens border checkpoints with Belarus

BERESTOVITSA DISTRICT, 17 November (BelTA) - Poland has resumed operations at border checkpoints with Belarus, BelTA has learned.

The first vehicles have crossed the border at the Berestovitsa border checkpoint (Bobrowniki on the Polish side).

The first to enter Belarus was Viktor. “I don’t travel often, but today I brought my brother to Belarus. The processing went smoothly, as it should: on time, without delays. Thanks to the efforts of diplomats from both countries, the border has reopened. That’s how it should be. Borders must be open,” he said.

Aleksandr, who is originally from Belarus and has been living in Germany for the past ten years, shared his experiences: “I'm going to visit my parents in Brest. It's been about a month and a half since I last visited them. I travel often, and this time I decided to cross here to see other relatives in Mosty as well. I'll be staying with them overnight and then heading to my parents'. We are very glad the border has reopened as it means we don't have to stand in long queues anymore. I’m especially happy because last time we waited 18 hours at the Polish border. And when traveling with a young child, it’s not very convenient,” he said.

Pavel, traveling with his wife to a town near Bialystok, said: “We have many relatives in Poland, and we’re going to visit them now. We haven’t seen them for a year. Before, we used to travel to Poland by bus through the Brest [border checkpoint], but this time we are driving. The route has become about 200 kilometers shorter. This will benefit both sides,” he noted.

Sergei from Berestovitsa District also took advantage of the reopening of the nearby checkpoint to visit relatives. “I’m from the village of Pogranichny. The difference in distance is significant for me,” he said.

The Bruzgi checkpoint (Kuznica Bialostocka) has also resumed operations.
