MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Possible spheres to use products developed by the Hi-Tech Park will be determined in branches of the Belarusian economy, BelTA learned from First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Dmitry Krutoi.

Dmitry Krutoi said: “During today’s session of the Council of Ministers the prime minister noted that many economy sectors have a huge potential for growth through their faster digitization. It was decided that attention will be given to specific industries where products developed by the Hi-Tech Park can be used.” The sphere of services (healthcare, transportation, tourism) and the real sector (the manufacturing sector, agriculture) were mentioned.

Dmitry Krutoi stressed that enterprises in all branches of the economy should be more active in this regard, particularly taking into account the high results achieved by the Hi-Tech Park, including in 2019. “The growth rate of the added value is 109.3%. It is the highest figure among all branches of the Belarusian economy. For instance, the Hi-Tech Park share in Minsk’s gross regional product already stands at 17%. Once again a record high foreign currency earnings growth has been achieved. In 2019 the Hi-Tech Park export totaled $2.4 billion, $550 million up from 2018. The growth was nearly 130%. As much as 90% of the exports went to Western countries and the USA,” Dmitry Krutoi noted.

“We already say a lot that digital technologies is our new oil, which we can use to compensate for various [tax] maneuvers, but the passiveness of our government agencies that fail to avail themselves of this potential beggars belief. We also regret the fact that cutting-edge Hi-Tech Park products, for instance, a precision farming technology or an environmental monitoring technology, are not used by Belarusian companies, but European ones. One starts to wonder why it happens,” Dmitry Krutoi noted.

The use of Hi-Tech Park products in various branches of the Belarusian economy was previously discussed at a session of the board of the Belarusian Communications and Informatization Ministry. Dmitry Krutoi stressed that the branches should more actively explore the potential the IT industry offers.
