New company in FEZ Vitebsk to make light aircraft

VITEBSK, 1 December (BelTA) – OOO Grand Mercury-CX has been registered as a new resident company in the free economic zone (FEZ) Vitebsk. The company intends to start manufacturing light aircraft, BelTA learned from the head of the FEZ Vitebsk administration Sergei Yurkevich.

The Belarusian-Russian joint venture intends to start making the multipurpose light aircraft Mercury in a FEZ Vitebsk sector in a Vitebsk city suburb. Over $7 million will be invested in the project. Over 100 jobs are supposed to be created. The choice of FEZ Vitebsk had been prompted by the availability of a former military airfield, which is constantly developed to increase investment appeal.

The multipurpose light aircraft Mercury is designed for business flights and can carry 6-8 people. It can be modified to fit the needs of government agencies such as the Emergencies Ministry and other ones.

The free economic zone (FEZ) Vitebsk was established in 1999. It occupies over 2,400ha and comprises 13 locations, including seven in Vitebsk, four in Orsha District, one in Vitebsk District, and another one in Postavy District. As many as 38 companies with capital from 12 countries operate as FEZ residents in such spheres as mechanical engineering, electronics, veterinary science, chemical infrastructure, fuel industry, food industry, light industry, and other areas. They employ nearly 10,800 people.
