Minsk-2 to handle customs clearance of all operations in Great Stone

MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) – The customs house Minsk-2 at Minsk National Airport will carry out customs control and clearance of all operations in the Chinese-Belarusian Industrial Park Great Stone, head of the customs house Andrei Mikhalkevich told reporters, BelTA has learned.

"Due to the fact that Minsk-2 is located in the immediate vicinity of the Great Stone, we plan to carry out customs control and clearance of all operations in the industrial park. For us, this is a new, interesting, high-tech area of work which will require additional training. We must organize customs control in such a way so that to ensure the economic security of the country, on the one hand, and provide the participants of the park with maximum opportunities for development without impeding their administrative procedures on the other hand," he said.

Speaking about the plans for 2016, Andrei Mikhalkevich said that the most important event will be the opening of a new terminal to handle Belpochta’s international mail. “Now we process approximately 20% of all international mail. After the launch of the new terminal we are set to process at least 50% of international main on the territory of the airport. This will speed up the journey of mail from the sender to the receiver,” he said. It is planned that the new terminal will be launched in the second half of 2016.

The cargo processing facility of Minsk National Airport will under some changes too. "Big volumes of cargo are transported by air today. The airport becomes a hub – a point of transit and transfer. Certain steps are being made to develop new infrastructure (organizational, architectural). The airport has been upgrading the cargo terminal, taking note of customs requirements. Work is underway to promote the electronic document management in the field of air cargo processing,” Andrei Mikhalkevich said.

"2016 will be an important year for the customs. The program to develop the customs service is completing in 2016. A new concept will be developed. It will outline the stages and development strategy of the customs service until 2020.

A Reporter’s Day was first at the customs house Minsk-2 on 21 January. During the event, the journalists got familiar with the results of the work of the customs in 2015, the system of customs controls at Minsk National Airport, customs operations and control in respect of baggage and hand luggage of passengers arriving in Belarus by international flights. The journalists also visited the Belpochta international mail exchange facility.
